The men’s Royal Rumble match was indeed the main event of tonight’s (Sat., Feb. 1, 2025) Royal Rumble premium live event at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, with too many compelling stories to count going into it. All the way up until the end, the odds didn’t seem to have a clear cut winner.
And then the surprise of a lifetime.
They started with some controversy when Penta accidentally appeared to eliminate himself but they refused to show a replay and made like it didn’t go down like that. They got things heated up only when Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker showed up and started dumping people.
Streamer IShowSpeed was a surprise entrant in place of Akira Tozawa, who was taken out by Carmelo Hayes. He even scored an elimination of Otis before he was killed by Breakker and promptly disposed of.
Jacob Fatu got his big run at 12 but the biggest star yet came at number 16 when Roman Reigns made his way in and instantly scored multiple eliminations. They did indeed have a fun staredown between the two before Drew McIntyre showed up to crash the party.
Finn Balor made his return with awful entrance music. Then AJ Styles made his return with his old entrance music!
The big names and favorites started in with John Cena at 23 followed by CM Punk at 24 and Seth Rollins at 25. They worked a big staredown alongside Reigns before kicking off a big brawl and picking up steam to a finish that still wasn’t clear.
The herd thinned out in some strange ways, with McIntyre eliminated by Damian Priest unceremoniously before LA Knight did the same to him, before Styles did the same to him. Logan Paul, who was entrant 30, made the big elimination save of the match and then took Styles out on his way back in.
Reigns, Jey Uso, Paul, Punk, Rollins, and Cena were the final six.
They had an epic back-and-forth between Reigns and Rollins, one that went to a stalemate where neither could manage to eliminate the other despite how close they came. So, naturally, Punk showed up just in time to toss them both out. And then Paul surprised Punk and tossed him out of the match too.
That pretty much spoiled the ending from there.
Paul was taken out by Cena.
Leaving only Cena and fan favorite Jey Uso.
They did as much as they could to create some doubt in the outcome and then … wait … no way … Jey Uso actually managed to eliminate John Cena to win the whole damn thing.
Holy shit!
