On Monday morning, ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that Cleveland Browns linebacker Myles Garrett has requested a trade after eight seasons in northern Ohio.
One of the first teams that popped up as a potential landing spot for the edge rusher is the Washington Commanders, and Bleacher Report’s NFL Insider James Palmer breaks down how that trade might look.
The consensus on compensation for Garrett is likely one first-round draft pick along with some other compensation like multiple lower-round draft picks or a player is thrown in, but it’s going to be some type of package for Garrett.
“Remember, they have fewer players under contract in 2025 than any other team in football,” Palmer says in the video. “Adam Peters also has an exorbitant amount of money, they have $78 million in cap space right now, that’s third-largest in the NFL.”
He goes on to discuss how Washington’s first priority is to protect Jayden Daniels, but that doesn’t mean they won’t look at this.
“They have a lot of capital, but is this the type of altering type of move that an organization like Washington is able to make? Some people around the league do believe that.”
The Commanders do have a good amount of capital to work with in 2025, but they also don’t need to make a ton of changes. They were very successful in 2024 and really need to hone down a few positions to solidify this team. Garrett could be one of those pieces, and Dan Quinn might just be the right guy to handle Garrett’s colorful personality.
As of now, the Browns have no real interest in trading Garrett for a variety of reasons. But this is Myles Garrett and we all know that if he doesn’t get his way, the entire world is going to hear about it. It could be a drawn-out process that’s full of dramatics, but it’s unlikely that Garrett suits up for Cleveland in 2025. Whether he lands with the Commanders or not remains to be seen, but he could definitely help the run defense that desperately needs addressed this offseason.
