Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia are on the move.
The Grizzlies traded Smart and a 2025 first-round pick to the Washington Wizards in a multi-team deal, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday. The trade also sent LaRavia to the Kings, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported.
Memphis got Wizards center Marvin Bagley III and guard Johnny Davis from the Wizards, Charania reported.
The move was finalized close to the NBA trade deadline on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Trading Smart and LaRavia allowed Memphis to clear out its wing depth heading into the rest of the season. The Grizzlies acquired Smart after the 2022-23 season in a trade with the Boston Celtics, but he’s struggled with injuries during his one-plus seasons with Memphis. He returned from a lengthy injury absence in Wednesday’s win over Toronto but is now on the move again.

LaRavia was a first-round pick out of Wake Forest in 2022 who was in and out of the rotation during his career with the Grizzlies.
The trade allows the Grizzlies to create flexibility moving forward. Smart is signed through 2025-26 on a four-year, $76 million deal he signed with Boston. LaRavia is set to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season because the Grizzlies declined his team option earlier this season.
Both Bagley and Davis are on expiring deals.
