The Celtics work quick as they have already signed wing Torrey Craig shortly after the trade deadline in a move first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. Boston president Brad Stevens hinted that they would sign a wing “relatively soon,” and soon afterwards, the organization landed Craig.
The C’s were relatively quiet at the trade deadline, making a minor move in dealing Jaden Springer to the Rockets. That trade also opened up a roster spot, allowing the C’s to land Craig in the process.
Stevens said they were looking to sign a wing in the buyout market — they did just that only hours after the deadline.
Craig was waived by the Bulls earlier this week after the team needed to open roster spots to complete the three-way Zach LaVIne trade. The 34-year-old has not played since December 30th due to an ankle injury but was nearing a return prior to his release.
The wing has shot at least 39 percent from 3-point range for the past three seasons but has only appeared in nine games this year for the Bulls before his release. However, his playoff track record makes him a good piece of insurance for the Celtics behind their usual bench rotation. He’s played in 75 playoff games since 2018 including 19 starts in stints with the Suns and Nuggets.
Boston still has one open roster spot to fill on the 15-man roster after the signing.
