When will Super Bowl weekend snow storm start in North Jersey, and be at its worst?

Heavy snow returns to New Jersey on Saturday evening into Sunday morning, with multiple inches of snow expected in North Jersey

A winter storm warning will be in effect for northwestern Bergen and Passaic counties (as well as across the New York border) from 5 p.m. on Saturday evening until 11 a.m. on Sunday, according to National Weather Service.

A winter storm warning means “a significant winter weather event including snow, ice, sleet or blowing snow or a combination of these hazards,” according to the NWS.

The rest of North Jersey will be under a winter weather advisory beginning Saturday at 3 p.m. until 6 a.m. for Morris, Sussex and Warren counties and from 5 p.m. on Saturday until Sunday at 11 a.m. for the rest of Bergen, Passaic, Union and Essex counties, the NWS said.

When will the snow start?

The snow is expected to start in the late afternoon to early evening on Saturday, specifically between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to National Weather Service meteorologist Jay Engle. Snow will reach it’s heaviest between 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.

“You have about three to four hours of snow that will drop three to four inches,” said Engle.

After midnight, the snow will transition into a wintery mix, which will include sleet and freezing rain, that will last until early Sunday morning, according to National Weather Service.

How much snow will we get?

North Jersey is expected to see a total of four to six inches of snow and ice. Different towns throughout the region have different snow total predictions.

The combination of snow, sleet and slush may cause hazardous conditions on the road. National Weather Service warns to avoid travel if necessary.
