Erie’s Joann fabrics and crafts store is not on the list of approximately 500 locations that will close nationwide.
The Ohio-based retail chain is closing more than half of its roughly 850 stores, but the Erie store, at 7200 Peach St. in Summit Towne Centre, is not among them, according to court documents.
Though the chain did not release an official list to the public, it did submit locations slated to close to the court as part of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. The company filed for bankruptcy a second time in less than a year in January after initially filing and then going private in March 2024.
Joann will close 33 stores in Pennsylvania, including this one in Johnstown, according to bankruptcy court filings.
Court documents list 533 stores that will be closed, including stores in Meadville and Cranberry Township in Butler County.
In a statement to USA Today, Joann said it is looking to “right-size its store footprint.”
“This was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our Team Members, our customers and all of the communities we serve,” Joann’s statement said. “A careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the Company determined which stores should remain operating as usual at this time.”
Stores in 49 states will be closed, including 33 in Pennsylvania.
