Friday Night Hoops 🏀
⛹️♂️ Friday’s Round-Up 🤠
- Cleveland steamrolls New York: The Cavaliers raced in front of the Knicks early, and never looked back. First quarter blitzes are becoming one of their calling cards. They’re tied with the Grizzlies for the best scoring team in the opening quarter (31.6), but are number one outright in first quarter plus-minus (+4.8). They shot over 60% from the field tonight, paced by Evan Mobley’s 9-11 shooting performance. The Cavs are now nine games ahead of the 3rd place Knicks, and six above the 2nd place Celtics.
- Jalen Green leads Houston to statement win: These Western Conference contenders delivered an exciting game that featured some of everything. After an 86-point first quarter, the pace slowed down to one resembling a playoff game. Anthony Edwards’ efficiency nosedived towards the end of the game, while Jalen Green continued to hit big shots. He had 35 on the night, his team is 9-0 this year when he crosses the 30-point threshold.
- Pistons quiet 5-game winning streak: The turnaround in Detroit is becoming harder to ignore. Tonight, the Pistons handled San Antonio with relative ease – which is becoming a trend. During this five-game winning streak, they boast an average margin of victory of 19.2 points, and all five wins have been by double digits. A hidden strength is their rebounding. Jalen Duren was a monster inside tonight, ending with 20 points, 15 rebounds and a handful of jaw-dropping dunks.
🌟 Tonight’s Top Performers 🌟
- Jalen Green: 35pts (12-24 FG, 5-11 3PM), five rebounds, four assists, two steals in 121-115 win over MIN
- Kyrie Irving: 35pts (11-22 FG, 5-12 3PM), two rebounds, four assists, one block in 111-103 win over NO
- Donovan Mitchell: 27pts (10-15 FG, 5-7 3PM), five assists, one block, one steal in 142-105 win over NY
- Tyler Herro: 28pts (10-18 FG, 4-9 3PM), three rebounds, seven assists, one block in 120-111 (OT) win over TOR
Rockets Soar Past Wolves 🚀
It was a close one, but in the end Minnesota didn’t have enough options offensively, or answers defensively to defeat the Rockets. Jalen Green had one of his best games this season, scoring 35 points to go with five three-pointers.

Anthony Edwards scored a game-high 37 points, but was held to just three in the fourth quarter. He struggled with his shot in the end, finishing just 13-32 from the field.
🤷♂️ Steph Being Steph 🤧
Stephen Curry never ceases to amaze the fans. He launches this corner three before falling into the first row, and of course it goes down while his back is to the rim. He’s got four threes and 20 points on the night.

700 20+ Point Games 🪣
Curry sank his last three before being pulled out of the game, notching a huge career milestone. Tonight marked his 700th game with 20 or more points, only 21 players in NBA history have reached this feat. Add it to his already Hall of Fame résumé.

Golden State holds a 20+ point lead over the Kings with the final quarter underway. The Kings are in the playoff hunt, holding an identical record as the Warriors, but if they drop this one tonight, they’ll fall to 10th in the conference.

Rookie Isaiah Collier is on an assists tear as of late, and the main beneficiary has been John Collins. Collins has 12 assists and counting on the night, while Collins is up to 26 points. The two connected for the dunk below, but it wasn’t Collins’ most impressive slam of the night…

Dynamite Duren Dunks 🧨
Jalen Duren is putting the exclamation point on what should be a Pistons win. He slams home the alley-oop over two defenders, while being fouled, only to one-up himself with a levitating one-handed slam moments later. He’s dominated tonight in the paint to the tune of 21 points and 15 rebounds.

Grinding out the W 💪
Tonight’s Grizzlies-Magic matchup was a true treat. The lead see-sawed throughout the final quarter, as it did the entire game. Memphis managed to hold on for the win, despite Santi Aldama missing a pair of free throws in the final seconds. That gave Orlando a chance to win, down by just one, however Jaren Jackson Jr. got the key defensive stop as the buzzer sounded.

Wizards Within Two 🚨
Washington has reached a new offensive gear late in the fourth and are on the verge of a comeback upset win. The Bucks are without Giannis Antetokounmpo for the remainder of the game after fouling out. Damian Lillard was also sidelined for this one.

Good news for Toronto fans as Scottie Barnes’ ankle scare appears to not be too serious. Barnes headed to the locker room toward the end of the first quarter against the Heat, but has returned to the court halfway through the second quarter.
Knotted at Halftime 🪢
It’s anybody’s game in Orlando, as the Magic and Grizzlies head to the locker room tied at 53. Memphis claimed a seven-point advantage after the first quarter. Orlando would answer in the second, led by Cole Anthony and Franz Wagner who have 12 and 11 points respectively.

The young Raptors star needed assistance to the sideline after appearing to injure his ankle while guarding a Bam Adebayo drive. He eventually was aided to the locker room for further evaluation. His team is trailing by double-digits against Miami after one period, 30-19.
2-Way Wiggins
Andrew Wiggins demonstrates in one sequence why his addition is appealing for Heat culture. He gets the steal on one end, and drains the triple on the other. This is his third game with Miami since being acquired in the Jimmy Butler trade.

Head Coach Tom Thibodeau will have a boost in his starting lineup tonight, as OG Anunoby suits up for his first contest since February 1st. His return softens the blow of not having Josh Hart for the second night in a row. His presence will help on the defensive end, as they try to slow down one of the league’s most potent offenses.
Cleveland’s Keys 🔑
The Cavaliers’ are prioritizing matching New York’s physicality. Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley will be tasked with taming Karl-Anthony Towns, while imposing their will on the offensive end.
KEYS FOR A KEY EASTERN CONFERENCE MATCHUP.@keybank | #LetEmKnow pic.twitter.com/4hDM8S3RkI
— Cleveland Cavaliers (@cavs) February 21, 2025
Tonight’s Top Stories 📰👇
- Eastern Conference Heavyweight Showdown: One of the first games on the slate, features a pair of teams aiming to be conference champions. The Cleveland Cavaliers have set the pace in the East all season long, and continued their regular season success last night against Brooklyn. The Knicks are coming off an overtime slugfest with the Chicago Bulls in which they won, 113-111. Only one of these teams, however, will be victorious on night two of a back-to-back set.
- Western Conference Play-In watch: Tonight’s matchup between the Kings and Warriors comes with high stakes. The two teams have identical 28-27 records, and claim the 9th and 10th spot in the West. Sacramento has won both of their previous meetings this season, and a win tonight would give them the outright tiebreaker for end-of-year seeding.
- Heat looking to snap 4-game skid: Miami has been on shaky footing since the Jimmy Butler trade, dropping their last four games and falling to 8th in the East. A win tonight against a streaky Toronto Raptors squad would be a big step in getting back on track.
