The USS Callister is taking flight once again. Netflix has released the trailer and first-look images for Season 7 of Charlie Brooker’s sci-fi anthology series “Black Mirror.“
Breaking from tradition, Season 7 is the first time “Black Mirror” will revisit the characters of a previous episode: Cristin Milioti and other key characters from the standout Season 4 episode “USS Callister” continue their virtual voyage in the upcoming “Black Mirror” season. Milioti will reprise her role as Nanette Cole, a mild-mannered computer programmer who is unwittingly sucked into a video game by her boss Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons).
Though Plemons’ character was vanquished at the end of “USS Callister,” a number of characters survived, including Billy Magnussen’s Karl, Milanka Brooks’ Elena and Osy Ikhile’s Nate, all of whom will return for Season 7. Jimmi Simpson will reprise his role as the ill-fated James Walton, a character who seemingly sacrificed himself at the end of “USS Callister” to defeat Daly.
Newly announced cast members include Michele Austin, Ben Bailey Smith, Asim Chaudhry, Josh Finan, James Nelson-Joyce, Will Poulter, Jay Simpson and Michael Workéyè.
Alongside the crew of USS Callister, previously announced cast members for “Black Mirror” Season 7 also include Awkwafina, Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, Patsy Ferran, Paul Giamatti, Lewis Gribben, Osy Ikhile, Rashida Jones, Siena Kelly, Rosy McEwen, Chris O’Dowd, Issa Rae, Paul G. Raymond, Tracee Ellis Ross and Harriet Walter.
First premiering in December 2011 on Channel 4 in the U.K., “Black Mirror” was purchased by Netflix ahead of its third season in 2016. Prior to a hiatus between Seasons 5 and 6, the series nabbed 14 Emmy nominations and nabbed eight wins, including outstanding TV movie for “San Junipero,” “USS Callister” and “Bandersnatch” in 2017, 2018 and 2019, respectively.
“Black Mirror” was created by Charlie Brooker, who executive produces the series alongside Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jone for Broke & Bones.
Season 7 of “Black Mirror” premieres on Netflix April 10. Check out the trailer and first-look images below:
