COLUMBUS, Ohio — Walk-on defensive end and content creator Caden Davis is no longer with Ohio State football.
The news was first reported by The Lantern on Wednesday morning with OSU football’s Sports Information Director Jerry Emig confirming Davis’ departure.
Davis took to Instagram afterward to share the news.
“Being a Buckeye has always been a dream come true of mine since being a kid,” Davis wrote. “I am so very appreciative to the coaches, staff, and players for welcoming me into the team. I truly cannot thank them enough for allowing me to live my dream for the last 2 years and mentoring me the way they have.
“With changes in the NCAA and personal career reasons I will not be a PWO (preferred walk-on) at the OSU. I appreciate the support of everyone and your help to respect my privacy about the decision made. Thank you, Go Bucks.”
Davis has become a popular name across social media during his time in Columbus. The Mason, Ohio, native has more than 350,000 combined followers across his Instagram and TikTok pages.
He recently shared an Instagram reel suggesting he was with OSU in Dallas for the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 10. He featured images from last season’s Cotton Bowl trip for the Buckeyes.
OSU offensive lineman George Fitzpatrick, who is in the transfer portal, commented, “You don’t play here” before the post was deleted.
Davis did not appear in a game for Ohio State during his two seasons with the program.
The NCAA is expected to implement new roster size limits pending an agreement in the House v. NCAA settlement. The limits have led to concerns about the fate of walk-ons, particularly in football.
