Rams 22 vs 28 Eagles, summary: score, stats, highlights | NFL Divisional Round

Eagles victorious over Rams in snowy battle

The Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams gave us an exciting NFC matchup for the Divisional Round on Sunday as the game stayed within reach for both teams throughout the majority of the game. As the snow started falling harder on the field in the second half, it was obvious that both sides were struggling more, but the Eagles were able to pull through for a 28-22 victory over the Rams. They will now advance to the NFC title game to take on their divisional rival Washington Commanders.

Much like in their last meeting, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley put up major numbers on the Rams, running for 205 yards and two touchdowns of 62 and 78 yards each. Quarterback Jalen Hurts added seven carries for 70 yards including one 44-yard touchdown run, plus 128 passing yards. He didn’t throw for any touchdowns or interceptions, but was sacked seven times for a loss of 63 yards. Jake Elliott missed two extra point attempts but made all of his field goal tries.

The Rams kept the game close. Quarterback Matthew Stafford finished with 26 of 44 completions for 324 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw any interceptions, but was sacked five times for a loss of 33 yards, including on their last effort to score in the final minutes, when Jalen Carter sacked him on third down.

The Eagles will host the Commanders in the NFC Championship game this Sunday, January 26 at 3 p.m. ET.

NFL playoffs | Sofascore

QB Comparison: Hurts vs Stafford

In the Rams’ Wild Card win over the Vikings, Stafford threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns. In the Eagles’ win over the Packers, Hurts, coming off a three-week absence due to a concussion, threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns.

As you can see, Hurts has Stafford beat by a long shot in the rushing touchdowns department during the regular season, something that could make a difference in today’s game.

Thanks to our pals at Sofascore for the stats!

Barkley reacts to Verse’s blunt thoughts on Eagles fans

Rams rookie linebacker Jared Verse said what many think about the Eagles fans, but he said it out loud…before heading straight into their territory for a playoff game.

I hate Eagles fans. They’re so annoying…When I see that green and white, I hate it. I actually get upset. Like I actually genuinely get hot.”

Look, I get it. I once had a Philly fan CAW at me and say “f**k Dallas” whilst staring at a beautiful waterfall in Iceland all because I dared to wear the beanie of thine enemy. But I digress.

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who’s had his fair share of encounters from the other side while playing for the New York Giants, advised that Verse’s comments were perhaps not the wisest…

Stafford’s track record in the snow not so positive

Barkley is right. Neither team is at much of an advantage with the snowy weather, as the Eagles are also unaccustomed to playing in that kind of weather.

However, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford indeed does not have the best history in snowy games. He is 1-8 with a 54.6% completion rating, has thrown 11 interceptions, and has a 76% passer rating. However, Stafford, unlike when he played in snowy Detroit, has a lot better players surrounding him for this game.

SNOWY game day today in Philly! Brrrr….

The weather for today’s game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia is FRIGID. Temps are expected to hover around freezing, but it will feel much colder on the field, with wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour and an average wind chill of -25 degrees. Oh, and they could see up to five inches of snow.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued, but the game will go on as planned, with the players as prepared as they can be for the conditions.

“At the end of the day, if it’s snow or rain, sleet, whatever it is, if we don’t go out there and we don’t execute when you go against great teams like who we’re playing in the divisional playoffs, you’re gonna set yourself for an outcome you don’t want,” said Eagles RB Saquon Barkley. “Whether it’s 100 degrees or 10 degrees, if we go out there and execute the game plan…we’re going to be alright. So I don’t think it’s an advantage one way or the other. The advantage goes to the people who execute their game plan.

The last time they met…

The Rams and Eagles met in the regular season this year, back in November. That game did not favor the Rams, as they lost 37-20 to the Eagles

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 24 of 36 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns, while Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 15 of 22 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown.

In that game, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley did a number on the Rams with a record-breaking performance. He finished with 26 carries for a franchise record of 255 yards, and two rushing touchdowns, for 70 and 72 yards. His 255 yards were the ninth-most rushing yards in a game in NFL history.

The Rams, hot off their dominant Wild Card victory, will be looking for a different fate in the postseason.

Eagles and Rams – how they got here

The Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are in the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. They finished the regular season 14-3 for the second time in three seasons and won ten consecutive games for the first time in franchise history. The clinched the NFC East title (and No. 2 in the NFC), giving them home-field advantage in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. They hosted the Green Bay Packers and dominated in a 22-10 victory.

The Rams

The Los Angeles Rams had a rough start to the season with several injuries contributing to that. But they eventually finished the regular season with a 10-7 record and first in the NFC West. They were to host the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round, but due to the catastrophic wildfires in the L.A, area, the game had to be moved to a neutral stadium – State Farm Stadium in Arizona. The Rams, despite being the No. 4 seed in the NFC, were underdogs against the 14-3 Vikings, but they beat them in dominant fashion, ending the game with a 27-9 final score.
