The Eagles’ defense clamped down on the Packers 22-10 in Sunday’s opening-round playoff win.
Why it matters: The Eagles are one step closer on the path to New Orleans, this year’s Super Bowl host.
Driving the news: The Eagles’ special teams and top-ranked defense made big plays to stake the Eagles to an early lead that they never relinquished.
- Philadelphia forced a fumble on the opening kickoff to set up wide receiver Jahan Dotson’s first touchdown as an Eagle.
- The defense intercepted Jordan Love three times and held big-play running back Josh Jacobs under 100 yards.
Catch up quick: The Eagles got a jolt of energy out of the gates after linebacker Oren Burks leveled Packers returner Keisean Nixon, jarring the ball loose on the first play of the game.
- The notorious slow-starting Eagles scored 10 points in the first quarter of the game. They struggled to score early in games throughout most of the season.
- The game was plagued by injuries to key players on both teams, including Eagles starting linebacker Nakobe Dean, who was carted off the field in the second quarter with a knee injury and didn’t return.
The intrigue: Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, who was held to a single catch for 10 yards, was captured during the telecast reading a motivational book, “Inner Excellence,” on the sidelines.
What’s ahead: The Eagles will host a divisional round game at Lincoln Financial Field next weekend.
