Beyoncé thanks daughter Rumi after forgetting her in Grammys speech

Beyoncé admittedly forgot to thank one particular collaborator at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where she at long last won Album of the Year: her youngest daughter, Rumi.

The genre-defying musician caught up with Entertainment Tonight after her eighth studio album Cowboy Carter won the evening’s big prize and shouted out her 7-year-old after she forgot to thank her while on stage.

“Rumi — who’s on the album, my youngest daughter — she was watching,” said Beyoncé. “I forgot to thank her so I get to thank her now. Thank you, Rumi.”

Rumi, following in the footsteps of big sister Blue Ivy, is featured on the album’s track “Protector.”

Blue Ivy notably attended the festivities, even joining her mother on stage when she became the first Black woman to win Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter earlier that evening. The 13-year-old has been featured on her mother’s music several times, including on “Brown Skin Girl” from The Lion King soundtrack, which earned the teenager her first Grammy.

“[She’s] taller than me, I don’t like it at all,” Beyoncé told ET of how grown Blue Ivy is now, adding, “I’m so happy that she was here.”

Beyoncé — the most-decorated artist in Grammys history with 35 wins and 99 overall nominations — won her very first Album of the Year on Sunday night, an accolade that has long evaded her. She is the first Black woman to win the prize in over two decades. The last was Lauryn Hill for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

“I really was not expecting this,” she said in her speech, thanking country pioneer Linda Martell, who is featured on the album via “Spaghettii” and “The Linda Martell Show.” “I want to dedicate this to Miss Martell, and I hope we keep pushing forward and opening doors,” Beyoncé said.

The superstar once again led this year’s ceremony with 11 nominations, taking home three in total. Along with Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year, she and Miley Cyrus won Best Country Duo for “II Most Wanted.”

It all comes after her jaw-dropping performance at the NFL’s Christmas halftime show, dubbed Beyoncé Bowl. She’s continuing to lasso momentum with the announcement of her highly anticipated Cowboy Carter Tour, which will span multiple nights across select cities: Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, London, Paris, Houston, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Washington, D.C.
