Chelsea 2-1 West Ham United, Premier League: Post-match reaction, ratings

The exclaims of several Chelsea loyals were finally answered. Manager Enzo Maresca, who’s been loyal to Robert Sánchez to a tee, decided to leave the Spanish goalkeeper on the bench in favour of Filip Jorgensen.

For a large chunk of the first half Jorgensen had little to no work. When he did have to show up he did well, playing it safer than Sánchez in occasions where the goalkeeper and the backline were under pressure.

Upfront Chelsea created a few good chances but nothing to write home about. Meanwhile West Ham were waiting on a fast break or a mistake to go out and pounce on a golden chance.

That mistake finally happened. Levi Colwill couldn’t handle Mohammed Kudus and a bad pass towards Jorgensen turned into an assist for Jerrod Bowen to get West Ham in the lead at Stamford Bridge.

Instead of waiting too long to make changes as he’s usually done in the last few matches, Enzo Maresca was very proactive and began making moves on minute 52. One of the players he brought on, Pedro Neto, scored the equaliser for us 12 minutes after his introduction.

West Ham were getting desperate, seeing their master plan getting dismantled right before their eyes. As they pushed forward, Chelsea found some space in their backline and got a second goal via Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s own goal from a magical Cole Palmer play.

The Blues continued to show their superiority, controlling the pitch and keeping possession while frustrating West Ham’s search for fast breaks.

Carefree!

  • Filip Jorgensen starts.
  • Cole Palmer nearly creates some magic to get us out of this slump in the first half.
  • And then he does it in the second half, with great help from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
  • Key block from Tosin Adarabioyo in the final minutes of the match to keep us in front.
  • Next up: Brighton away in the FA Cup.
