Club América looks to kick off the Clausura campaign with a second straight win when it hosts Club Tijuana on Thursday night.
América is aiming to win a fourth straight Liga MX title. Last month,
Las
Águilas
became the first team to win three straight titles since Liga MX switched to a short tournament format in 1996.
América defeated Querétaro 1-0 on Friday, despite playing with a squad made up almost entirely of reserves and youth players.
Most of América’s first team is training in the United States ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Inter Miami in Las Vegas, meaning the B-squad will once again be in place against Xolos on Thursday.
Tijuana started its campaign with a 4-2 home defeat to Toluca, and will now be out for some revenge against the team that eliminated it from the playoffs in November.
América and Tijuana played out a 2-2 draw in the play-in round of the Apertura playoffs, with América advancing via a penalty kick shootout.
