NHTSA RECALLS
Ford Motor is recalling more than 270,000 cars over potential battery failure that could cause a loss of power, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to a notice first reported to NHTSA on Friday, the recall covers 272,817 Bronco and Maverick vehicles that contain 12-volt batteries manufactured by Chinese company Camel Battery.
The battery in affected vehicles may experience internal failures, leading to battery degradation while driving. This can cause sudden battery failure, resulting in the loss of electric-powered features including hazard lights. It can also cause a loss of driving power, or render vehicles unable to restart or stall after an auto stop/start or when coming to a stop at low speed.
The loss of these functions increases crash and injury risk. Ford is not aware of any accidents, fires, or injuries attributed to the battery issue.
