ATLANTA — Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms addressed recent claims by President Donald Trump that she was fired from her White House role.
In a 1:1 interview with 11Alive, Bottoms, who most recently served on former President Joe Biden’s Export Council, dismissed Trump’s remarks. Bottoms said she had submitted her resignation on January 4, 2025, effective January 20, and had informed Biden directly through a formal letter.
“I resigned January 4. I sent a letter to President Biden thanking him for the opportunity to serve on the President’s Export Council,” Bottoms said. “I made my resignation date effective January 20.”

Trump’s statement, made in a late-night social media post, grouped Bottoms with other high-profile figures, including Chef Jose Andres, Retired U.S Army General Mark Milley, and Brian Hook, who served as a top envoy to Iran during the President’s first term in office.
“I don’t know why Donald Trump singled me out at 1:30 a.m. following his historic inauguration,” Bottoms said. “I’d like to think that I’m in great company, but I can’t begin to tell you why President Trump does any of the things that he does.”
Bottoms served as the mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022 before joining the Biden administration. Her role as a senior advisor included a focus on public engagement and community outreach.
11Alive will have more of the conversation with Bottoms on Sunday at 11 a.m. on the Georgia Vote.
