Doctors Suspected Cushing Syndrome
The actor said that doctors believed she had Cushing syndrome, causing facial swelling. “Doctors were chiming in in the comments and they were, like, ‘No, no … something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy.’”
What Is Cushing Syndrome?
Cushing Syndrome is a medical condition caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. This condition can occur naturally due to the body producing excessive cortisol or as a side effect of long-term use of corticosteroid medications.
“At first, I was like, ‘F—k off,’ “ Schumer said. She then realized: “Wait, I have been getting steroid injections for my scars” from her breast reduction and Cesarean section. “So I got these was getting these steroid injections and so it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome — which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”
Schumer first shared her Cushing diagnosis in February 2024.
