CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins pushed back on House Speaker Mike Johnson’s claims that Democrats are attempting to provide “free health care” for immigrants in the latest government funding bill, which has been a primary Republican talking point heading into the imminent government shutdown.

Collins spoke with Johnson during the Tuesday night broadcast of her show, “The Source.” At the time of the interview, the government was just hours away from shutting down because Congress had not yet passed a continuing resolution to fund federal agencies until the end of the year.

Republicans have blamed Democrats for not passing a “clean” resolution to fund the government that does not include money for social programs. Democrats contend Republicans are seeking to pass a partisan resolution without.

Collins pressed Johnson about the claims that Democrats are trying to “provide free healthcare’ for immigrants, something she said is not supported by the Congressional Budget Office’s analysis of the GOP’s resolution.

“I’m just saying that giving people who are here illegally free health care is not exactly what this proposal does,” Collins said.

Johnson argued that it is “100%” what’s in the proposal.

“It’s people with legal status, and you’re just disagreeing with who is eligible,” Collins shot back.

Johnson told Collins to review the CBO analysis.

“I looked at it, actually, because I was curious about your argument yesterday,” she said.
