Is Dorian Finney-Smith playing tonight? Updates for Lakers forward

The Los Angeles Lakers are on a three-game losing streak after falling apart in the fourth quarter on Monday and losing 126-102 to the San Antonio Spurs. They will look to stop that skid on Wednesday when they host the Miami Heat at Crypto.com Arena.

Beating the Heat would mean containing guard Tyler Herro, who is having a career-best season by averaging 24.0 points a game and making 40.3% of his 3-point attempts. On Dec. 4, when the Heat blasted Los Angeles 134-93, he scored 31 points and tossed in an incredible nine 3-pointers, with seven of them coming in the third quarter.

Unfortunately for L.A., it will be without forward Dorian Finney-Smith, one of its best and most versatile defenders, who is out for personal reasons. However, he is out for a good reason, as he and his partner are welcoming a baby boy to their family.

Dorian Finney-Smith is out tonight, per the Lakers, for personal reasons. He is a new father, with him and his partner welcoming a baby boy.

Finney-Smith came to the Lakers in a Dec. 29 trade with the Brooklyn Nets. He has supplied them with a legitimate 3-and-D wing who can guard players at multiple positions and space the floor on offense. Since arriving, he’s averaging 6.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 23.7 minutes a game while shooting 40.9% from 3-point range.

However, his acquisition hasn’t translated into consistent wins, at least not yet. The Lakers are 2-4 with him, despite being in the most favorable stretch of their schedule.
