BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Joann Fabrics is closing 500 stores across the United States, including its location on Ming Avenue in Bakersfield. The company announced the closures as part of its bankruptcy preparation efforts.

Joann Fabrics filed for bankruptcy last month, marking the second time in a year the retailer has taken this step. The company attributed the bankruptcy filing to severe and unexpected inventory issues.

Following the closures, Joann Fabrics will have only 300 stores remaining open nationwide.
