John Fetterman was a guest on “The View” on Monday and his trip to New York City ended up making a few headlines.
Perhaps the most buzz came from his take on President Donald Trump’s trial in the city last year.
“I’m on record criticizing going after Hunter Biden,” the senator from Pennsylvania said. “And I also agree that the trial in this city, in New York, was politically motivated. That wouldn’t otherwise have been prosecuted if it was someone else.
Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in that hush money trial.
Fetterman then addressed pardons — he was also asked about Trump pardoning those in jail for Jan. 6 and Biden issuing pardons, too — saying that he believed in pardons. But he said he didn’t agree with many of the pardons issued by Biden and Trump.
“Especially on the J6 ones,” he said.
“If you are going to abuse the process, someone who has been very committed as part of that, has made that part of my career, I think it is sad because it is politicized, and I think if anything that might have set some things back,” he continued. “Because people assume now, depending on what team is in office, those are the people that get some redemption.”
“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin seemed to remain focus on Fetterman’s take on Trump’s trial throughout the discussion and brought him back to it when he was finished discussing pardons.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “Did you mean the 34-count case in which Donald Trump was found guilty of various financial crimes was politically motivated here in New York?”
“I found that when the judicial system gets weaponized and targeting political enemies for political gain, I think that is inappropriate,” Fetterman responded. “And I think that degrades our collective trust in this very important institution. Whether that is a Democrat going after a Republican or a Republican going after a Democrat. I like to think I call it strikes and balls, the judicial system has to remain impartial.
“I mean that is really the cornerstone of our society.”
“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg then wrapped up the segment with a smile.
“Wouldn’t that be great if that is the way that things actually worked,” she said.
