Kanye West’s Yeezy Website Down After Selling Swastika T-Shirt; Shopify Says West ‘Violated Our Terms’ Amid Backlash

Kanye West‘s Yeezy.com is no longer online amid controversy over the rapper selling a swastika shirt on the merchandise website. Visitors to the Yeezy website are now met with error messages that read “something went wrong” and “this store is unavailable.” The site had used e-commerce platform Shopify to complete its transactions.

“All merchants are responsible for following the rules of our platform. This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify,” Shopify told Variety in a statement about the website being pulled offline.

West promoted the Yeezy website in a surprise Super Bowl commercial that aired in Los Angeles. West flipped the website after the advertisement aired and replaced its previous content with just one item: The swastika T-shirt that was on sale for $20 each. The low-budget commercial was shot on an iPhone and featured West in what appeared to be a dentist’s chair as he told viewers to visit Yeezy.com. The ad ran on three Fox-owned stations, including KTTV Los Angeles.

Insiders told Variety that West’s ad went through legal approval and moved forward because there was no standards issue with the 30-second spot itself. Shopify quickly came under fire for backing West’s website as it sold a swastika shirt.

West’s website being pulled offline follows in the footsteps of his X profile being deactivated following days of the rapper posting antisemitic, misogynistic and pornographic posts. West declared “I’m a Nazi” and called Hitler “so fresh” days before his account was deactivated. His X posts were widely condemned by anti-hate organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee. Amid the antisemitic rants, celebrities such as David Schwimmer called on X owner Elon Musk to remove the rapper from the social media platform.
