Mass. weather: 3 inches of snow possible Saturday amid stormy stretch

Massachusetts is bracing for its third winter storm in a week on Saturday, as forecasters say there is a roughly 60% chance of 3 or more inches of snow across the Bay State.

Saturday’s snowfall comes in the wake of a clipper system on Sunday that brought 2 to 3 inches to most of the area and a Thursday storm expected to dump up to 4 inches of snow in some areas of the Bay State. Days out, the forecast for the coming storm remains uncertain, but forecasters say the center of its track is moving south, increasing the chances of snow for Massachusetts.

Forecast models show a good chance — around 60% — of 3 or more inches of snow in Massachusetts. But the chances of much more than that are slim, with forecasters saying the chances of 5 or more inches are “relatively low.”

“Generally, there is high confidence in plowable snow falling, but it is still too early for any exact amounts,” forecasters wrote.

The active pattern will give way to a brief respite on Sunday and Monday, with the work week expected to start off dry. Temperatures should be seasonable on Monday.

Another system moves over New England Tuesday through the middle of the week, but forecasters say it is too early to tell what it may bring.
