Back In Action combines drama, comedy and family in Netflix’s latest release.

The movie stars Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx as Emily and Matt, a pair of former CIA spies who traded their lives as operatives to start a family. While raising their daughter Alice (McKenna Roberts) and son Leo (Rylan Jackson), the couple are confronted with their past when they fend off an attack in front of their kids. This prompts the main characters to revisit their previous lives and consider what it means for them today.

Back in Action, which premiered on Jan. 17, 2025, marks Diaz’s first acting role since 2014’s Annie. The film was completed after Foxx successfully recovered from a medical emergency. It also features Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott and Jamie Demetriou, though few details of their characters have been shared.

While Diaz and Foxx have on-screen chemistry as Emily and Matt, off-screen they are in relationships of their own. Diaz has been married to Good Charlotte member Benji Madden since May 2014, and Foxx has been linked to Alyce Huckstepp since August 2023.

Diaz may be returning to the silver screen as Emily in Back in Action, but she’s spent the last decade working on her personal life, including launching the wine brand Avaline and focusing on her relationship with husband Benji Madden.

The Holiday star began dating the musician in May 2014. By the end of the year, the couple got engaged and shortly after, married in a low-key ceremony at their home in January 2015.

The couple are parents to two children. They welcomed their first child, daughter Raddix Madden, in December 2019. A few years later, in March 2024, the pair announced the birth of their second child, son Cardinal Madden.

In October 2024, E! News reported that Diaz opened up about her husband’s support on her return to acting at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit. At the time, she said that he “was just like, ‘You’ve been supporting us and building the family.’ And supporting him in his businesses. He’s like, ‘It’s time for us to support you and let mommy ascend and do her thing.’ ”

After 1999’s Any Given Sunday and 2014’s Annie, Foxx reunited with Diaz for Netflix’s Back In Action as Matt. While he plays a husband on-screen, Foxx keeps his personal life private off-screen, including his relationships.

The actor and comedian was first linked to his girlfriend Alyce Huckstepp in August 2023, after they were photographed while out to dinner in California. Over the course of their relationship, they’ve been spotted on vacation and visiting filming sets together.

Outside of his romance with Huckstepp, Foxx is a father to two children. He welcomed his daughter Corinne in February 1994, with his ex Connie Kline. More than a decade later, he welcomed his second child, daughter Anelise Bishop, in October 2008 with his ex Kristin Grannis.

Friday Night Lights star Kyle is among the star-studded cast of the streaming flick, though not much is known about his character Chuck. Off-screen, He has been married to his wife, Kathryn Chandler, since 1995.

In the mid-1990s, the couple met at a dog park in California. After being on-again, off-again for a period of their relationship, they settled down and have been married for nearly three decades.

They are parents to two children, daughters Sydney and Sawyer. Kyle and Kathryn reside in Texas, where they run a nonprofit.

Close, who portrays the character Ginny in the film, has been married three times.

The Fatal Attraction star was wed to singer-songwriter Cabot Wade from 1969 to 1971 before she went on to marry her second husband, businessman James Marlas, in 1984 until they split in 1987. She tied the knot with entrepreneur David Shaw in 2006, but the couple got divorced in 2015 after nine years of marriage.

Close also shares a daughter, Annie Starke, with her ex-partner, producer John Starke.

She told Parade in April 2021 that it was “not a good mix” to date partners who weren’t part of the industry. She explained, “To stay an artist, you have to be with people who understand that and don’t expect you to have their outlook on the world … It really is like two different languages.”

Most recently, the actress appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show and shared that she’s content on her own. “I’m always up for anything but I’m very happy right now,” Close said.

Andrew Scott, who plays the character Baron in Back In Action, maintains the privacy of his relationships. He has shared few details about his love life, including whether or not he is single or has a partner.

In a November 2013 interview with The Independent, the All Of Us Strangers star spoke briefly about his sexuality, explaining, “Mercifully, these days people don’t see being gay as a character flaw. But nor is it a virtue, like kindness. Or a talent, like playing the banjo. It’s just a fact.”

The actor also described himself as a “private person,” noting that this was an “important” attribute of his job.

He clarified, “But there’s a difference between privacy and secrecy, and I’m not a secretive person. Really I just want to get on with my job, which is to pretend to be lots of different people. Simple as that.”

Following the success of Fleabag and Barbie, Jamie Demetriou stars as Nigel in Back In Action.

While Demetriou has not named his partner publicly, he has been photographed on several occasions with chef Clare Cole at events and featured her on his Instagram in October 2022.

It was confirmed in a March 2023 interview with Time Out that Demetriou was dating a chef, and they were “doing an explore of Stoke Newington’s fry-up caffs.”
