NBA trade deadline live updates: Jimmy Butler to the Warriors, De’Andre Hunter to Cavs, Jonas Valančiūnas to Kings as deadline passes

  • It’s been a tough couple of days for Dennis Schröder, who was traded from the Golden State Warriors to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, is now heading to the Detroit Pistons.
  • Per ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, Schröder was “pulled out of the showers” ahead of the Warriors’ game in Utah last night. Schröder had recently signed a lease in San Francisco, per Spears, and had expected to stay with Golden State long-term — but now, he’s getting rerouted to Detroit.

Crazy 18 hours for vet Dennis Schröder. Schröder works out pregame with Warriors in Utah last night and is pulled out of showers to be told of trade to Jazz. He recently signed a lease in SF and expected to stay at GS. Jazz don’t want Schröder. Now Schröder is heading to Detroit.

  • Schröder’s trade to Detroit marks his fourth this cycle. He was traded to the Warriors on Dec. 15 after a short stint with the Brooklyn Nets. Schröder was also part of the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State, and was connected with the Miami Heat before being rerouted to Utah.
  • Marvin Bagley is headed to Memphis as part of the Marcus Smart deal. Johnny Davis will join him, too.

The Wizards are sending Marvin Bagley III to the Grizzlies as part of the deal, sources tell ESPN. Johnny Davis also sent to Memphis. https://t.co/QeEN5HCUGH

  • The Toronto Raptors are getting James Wiseman, and cash, from the Indiana Pacers right under the wire.
  • The Los Angeles Clippers are trading Kevin Porter Jr. to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for MarJon Beauchamp, per multiple reports. The move swaps the two young players in a one-for-one trade.
  • The Memphis Grizzlies are sending Marcus Smart and a 2025 first-round pick to the Wizards in exchange for two second-round picks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
  • The trade includes the Sacramento Kings, too, who will get Jake LaRavia as part of the deal.

The Kings are sending a 2028 second-rounder to Memphis, plus Colby Jones and Alex Len to Washington, to acquire the Grizzlies’ Jake LaRavia as part of the Marcus Smart trade, league sources tell @TheSteinLine. https://t.co/CEBA2PhGLD

  • Though he was briefly headed to the Jazz, Dennis Schroder is now being rerouted to the Detroit Pistons as part of the Jimmy Butler-Golden State Warriors deal.

  • The Hawks are making moves ahead of this deadline. They just sent Cody Zeller to the Rockets, along with a second-round pick that the Rockets had previously owned, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. It’s unclear what the Hawks are getting in return from this deal.
  • The Los Angeles Clippers have made a move right before the deadline. They are sending Terance Mann and Bones Hyland to the Atlanta Hawks for Bogdan Bogdanović and a trio of second-round draft picks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The deal came about 40 minutes ahead of the deadline on Thursday.
  • Anthony Davis is expected to make his debut with the Mavericks on Saturday versus the Rockets, rather than during Thursday’s matchup with the Celtics, according to Marc Stein.

The expectation, I’m told, is that newly acquired Anthony Davis will make his Mavericks debut Saturday at home against Houston rather than tonight in Boston.

Expect a corresponding move by Atlanta since this trade initially puts them in the luxury tax.

  • After acquiring Brandon Ingram on Wednesday night, the Raptors made a minor move Thursday morning.
  • With the way the trade deadline works, there is a better than zero chance this could end up being part of the Jimmy Butler deal when all is said and done, but we’ll have to wait and see.

  • Disgruntled six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler finally got a new home Wednesday, as his weeks-long standoff with the Miami Heat mercifully came to an end.
  • Butler, 35, was traded to the Golden State Warriors in a four-team deal that matches Butler’s defensive mindset, toughness, playmaking and shifty scoring with the championship tandem of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green as the Warriors attempt to push open the club’s title window.
  • The Warriors, sitting at 25-25 and around the play-in the Western Conference, needed to do something to shake up things for their aging core. Was the Butler deal the right move? It’s a major risk and he has had his issues with a few teams, but Golden State obviously felt the need to do something.
  • So as you can imagine, adding a proven star and the 2022-23 Eastern Conference Finals MVP had a positive effect on the team’s odds to win the NBA Finals.
  • Read the full story here.
  • The Lakers made another deal on Wednesday night. They sent Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for center Mark Williams.
  • Williams will now presumably fill the gap left in the Lakers’ lineup when they dealt Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for star Luka Dončić.

  • Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr wants the deadline pushed back to All-Star weekend. While it’s unclear if that would get any traction, or if it’s even possible, it’s easy to see why he feels that way after Wednesday night.
  • The Warriors struck a deal with the Miami Heat to land Jimmy Butle right before their matchup with the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. Andrew Wiggins, who was traded to Miami in the deal, was warming up when the team was pulled back to the locker room.
  • The Heat were in the middle of the game when it went down, too, and a fan behind their bench actually broke the news of the trade to them during the contest.
  • That type of thing, Kerr said, is incredibly difficult.

“The league should consider making the trade deadline at the All-Star break, just so you don’t have to face these games where guys are getting traded half an hour before a game and you’re trying to process the emotions and trying to win a game. I don’t know if that’s possible … I don’t know how to do it, but these are tough days for sure.”

  • Brandon Ingram is headed to the Raptors. The New Orleans Pelicans struck a deal to send Ingram north on Wednesday night in exchange for Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, a first-round pick and a second-round pick.
