NBA trade deadline live updates: Jimmy Butler to the Warriors; Wizards trade Jonas Valančiūnas to Kings; Bucks land Kyle Kuzma

  • The Lakers made another deal on Wednesday night. They sent Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for center Mark Williams.
  • Williams will now presumably fill the gap left in the Lakers’ lineup when they dealt Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for star Luka Dončić.

  • Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr wants the deadline pushed back to All-Star weekend. While it’s unclear if that would get any traction, or if it’s even possible, it’s easy to see why he feels that way after Wednesday night.
  • The Warriors struck a deal with the Miami Heat to land Jimmy Butle right before their matchup with the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. Andrew Wiggins, who was traded to Miami in the deal, was warming up when the team was pulled back to the locker room.
  • The Heat were in the middle of the game when it went down, too, and a fan behind their bench actually broke the news of the trade to them during the contest.
  • That type of thing, Kerr said, is incredibly difficult.

“The league should consider making the trade deadline at the All-Star break, just so you don’t have to face these games where guys are getting traded half an hour before a game and you’re trying to process the emotions and trying to win a game. I don’t know if that’s possible … I don’t know how to do it, but these are tough days for sure.”

  • Brandon Ingram is headed to the Raptors. The New Orleans Pelicans struck a deal to send Ingram north on Wednesday night in exchange for Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, a first-round pick and a second-round pick.

  • The Warriors get a player who should come in and immediately fit their DNA. Butler, in connection with the trade, agreed to decline his player option for next season and sign a two-year extension worth $121 million, locking him in with the Warriors — presumably — until it’s time for retirement.

New Golden State Warriors star Jimmy Butler has agreed to a new two-year, $121 million extension with the franchise through 2026-27, sources tell me and @WindhorstESPN. Butler is declining his 2025-26 player option for this new $121M deal.

  • Jimmy Butler is finally on the move.
  • The Golden State Warriors struck a deal to land the disgruntled Miami Heat star on Wednesday night, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. In return, the Heat will get Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson and a protected first-round draft pick.
  • The trade came after weeks of chaos in Miami, where Butler faced multiple suspensions amid his demand for a trade. He’ll now get to team up with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green in the Bay.

  • Several days after the Luka Dončić-Anthony Davis trade shocked the world, the dust has begun to settle. Each player has conducted introductory interviews with his new team and is getting accustomed to a new roster of teammates, coaches and trainers.
  • The NBA will roll on, that much we know. But off the court, this trade could have rippling effects, with millions of dollars in lost salary, increased jersey sales and more.
  • For starters, Anthony Davis has opted not to receive his $6 million trade kicker. In what can only be considered an unusual move, especially given the total value of the option, Davis left seven figures on the table to help the Mavericks stay financially flexible to improve their roster, saying, “I’m just trying to do my part [to help the Mavericks get better].”
  • Dončić, on the other hand, will sacrifice much more. The bright lights of Hollywood will undoubtedly lead to more endorsement income over the coming years, but the trade could eventually cost the 25-year-old All-Star more than $100 million in total.

  • The Washington Wizards have agreed to trade veteran center Jonas Valančiūnas to the Sacramento Kings for forward Sidy Cissoko and two second-round picks, The Stein Line and ESPN report.

  • With Kevin Durant reportedly not interested in joining Golden State, the Warriors have shifted their focus to acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Heat, the Stein Line reports.
  • Kevin Durant has been the hottest name in rumors and reports as Thursday’s NBA trade deadline approaches.
  • But that heat appears to be cooling off. Amid reports that the Warriors would like to reunite with Durant, that feeling reportedly isn’t mutual.

  • Per the Stein Line and ESPN’s Shams Charania, Durant has no interest in reuniting with Golden State.
  • The decision’s ultimately not up to Durant. He has a contract that runs through the end of the 2025-26 season, and he does not have a no-trade clause.
  • The question then becomes: Would the Warriors be willing to pull the trigger on a deal for a player who’s reportedly expressed a clear desire not to play in Golden State? And that would be dependent on a deal being worked out in the first place. It adds up to a lot of barriers to Durant being moved before the deadline — to Golden State, at least.
  • What could happen next?

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant (ankle soreness) will not play tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder, league sources inform me.
