Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens vs Pittsburgh Steelers: Stats, score updates for AFC wild card game

While his old team has its sights set on the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Derrick Henry is back in the playoffs.

After eight dominant seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Henry signed with the Baltimore Ravens prior to the offseason and enjoyed one of the most productive campaigns of his career, rushing 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns to earn his fifth Pro Bowl bid. The running back, who turned 31 last Saturday, helped the Ravens go 12-5, win the AFC North and average the third-most points in the league at 30.9 per game.

Henry and the Ravens, the No. 3 seed in the AFC, host the No. 6 seed Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7) Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium (7 p.m., Amazon Prime).

The Steelers are 3-1 against the Ravens in the playoffs. The teams split the season series in 2024: Pittsburgh won 18-16 at home on Nov. 17 and Baltimore won 34-17 at home on Dec. 21.

Ravens have big lead on Steelers in AFC wild card game: How many yards does Derrick Henry have at halftime?

It’s been all Baltimore for the first 30 minutes of Saturday’s AFC wild card game against Pittsburgh. The Ravens lead 21-0 and have outgained the Steelers 308-60. They’re averaging 7.5 yards per play, have 18 first downs to Pittsburgh’s two and have controlled the ball for over 20 minutes.

MVP candidate Lamar Jackson avoided pressure and hit Justice Hill out of the backfield for a 5-yard touchdown pass with three seconds to play in the second quarter, capping off a nine-play, 90-yard drive that took less than two minutes.

Derrick Henry has impressed in his first playoff game for the Ravens, with 100 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Jackson is 13-for-15 passing for 144 yards and two TDs in addition to 64 rushing yards on 11 attempts.

Baltimore’s offense can’t be stopped in the first half of its AFC wild card game against Pittsburgh. Derrick Henry’s 8-yard run with 4:09 to go before halftime extended the Ravens’ lead to 14-0. It’s Henry’s fifth career postseason TD.

Henry has 11 carries for 92 yards, 28 of them coming on Baltimore’s most recent drive, which went 85 yards in 13 plays and ate up nearly eight minutes of game clock.

Henry is noted for his strong Christian faith. He paints his eye black in the shape of a cross, which he has done dating back to 2019 when he played for the Titans.

In an interview with Christian sports podcast Faith on the Field, Henry explained the start of the tradition.

“I’m big on prayer and giving God thanks for everything that I have,” Henry told interviewer Rob Maaddi. “I just think, what’s one thing I can do to honor Him while on I’m on that football field? And I thought of that (the cross under his eyes). I do it every game, and I make sure that cross is on my face.”

Lamar Jackson put the Ravens up 7-0 on the Steelers with 4:45 to go in the first quarter, throwing a 15-yard touchdown pass to Rashod Bateman. Baltimore drove 95 yards in 13 plays on their opening drive, taking over seven minutes off the clock.

Derrick Henry rushed for 49 yards on the drive, including a 34-yard gain to get the Ravens into the red zone. Jackson went 3-for-4 for 31 yards and rushed five times for 22 yards.

Saturday’s game will mark Henry’s fifth time making the playoffs and his eighth career postseason game. In his previous seven playoff games, Henry has totaled 156 carries for 732 yards and four touchdowns.

Henry’s best postseason performance came against his current team. During the 2019-20 playoffs, he ran for 195 yards on 30 carries and threw for a 3-yard touchdown pass as the Titans upset the No. 1-seeded Ravens and MVP Lamar Jackson to advance to the AFC championship game.

Henry has faced the Steelers five times in his career and has rushed for 409 yards and three touchdowns on 81 carries in those games. He had 24 carries for 162 yards in the Ravens’ win over the Steelers in December, which allowed them to clinch the AFC North division title.

In his first season with the Ravens, Henry has scored 16 rushing touchdowns and rushed for 1,921 yards on 325 attempts. His average of 5.9 yards per carry is a career high, surpassing his 5.4 figure in 2020.

Henry’s 16 touchdowns on the ground are tied for the second-most of his career, as is his yardage total. He tied with James Cook of the Buffalo Bills and Jahmyr Gibbs of the Detroit Lions for the league lead in rushing TDs.

Henry finished the season ranked second in the NFL in yards, trailing Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley, who became the ninth player in league history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season and first since Henry did so in 2020.

Henry also has caught 19 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns.

Henry’s first eight seasons were with the Tennessee Titans. He had 9,502 rushing yards in his time in Nashville. This season, his first in Baltimore, Henry has 1,921 rushing yards with 16 TDs.

Henry is 6-foot-3, 242 pounds and turned 31 years old on January 4.
