The Pokémon Company International has assured fans that more Prismatic Evolutions Pokémon TCG cards are on the way in a new statement. Later this month, The Pokémon Company International will release Prismatic Evolutions, a new “special set” focused on Eevee and its evolutions. While many of the cards in the set are reprints with new artwork, the major draw of the set is the big number of Illustration Rare cards and Special Illustration Rare cards featuring new art and fan-favorite Pokémon. However, demand for the set is high, and many stores have received significantly less stock than anticipated.
In response to the high demand for Prismatic Evolutions, The Pokémon Company International has told Screen Rant that it is addressing the problem. In a statement provided to Screen Rant, The Pokémon Company International said:
“We’re aware that some fans may experience difficulties purchasing certain Pokémon Trading Card Game: Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions products at launch due to high demand impacting availability. We understand this inconvenience can be disappointing for fans, and we are actively working to print more of the impacted Pokémon TCG products as quickly as possible and at maximum capacity to acknowledge this.”
The Pokémon Company International is also pushing out reprints to stores as soon as possible. “Reprinted products are expected to be available at participating retailers as soon as possible to help ensure more fans receive opportunities to access Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions,” the statement reads. “In addition, more new products from the Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions lineup will be launching in the coming months. We’d like to thank the community for their continued support and patience as we work to deliver this highly anticipated expansion to fans.”
What Shortages Mean For Fans
Expect A Few Months With Few Pokémon TCG Cards On Shelves
Prismatic Evolutions is highly anticipated as a collector’s set, since most of the cards are reprints and are already found in other sets. The good news is that Prismatic Evolutions shortages shouldn’t impact the competitive side of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. However, the shortages will likely mean inflated prices for Prismatic Evolutions products in the second-hand market, especially in the short term. Individual chase cards will also likely have higher-than-normal prices, especially over the next few months until more products are available.
RelatedPokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will still use the current Pack Hourglasses when its future expansions come out in the game.
Another consequence of the high demand is that Prismatic Evolutions will likely have a much higher print run than other sets. By comparison, Scarlet & Violet – 151 continued to receive new products and prints into late 2024, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a similar cadence for future prints of Prismatic Evolutions. Also, the upcoming shortages also mean that many stores won’t likely be any significant Pokémon TCG products in stores until the launch of Journey Together in March. That set could also have high demand, due to the introduction of Trainer’s Pokémon cards.
Our Take: Patience Is A Virtue For Pokémon TCG Fans
Fans Should Resist The Urge To Overpay For Prismatic Evolutions
I’m glad that The Pokémon Company International is assuring fans that more Prismatic Evolutions product is on the way. We’ve already seen both scalpers and less scrupulous stores take advantage of the shortages and charge way more than MSRP for products. As long as fans are patient, they won’t need to pay the high prices charged right now.
Another solid step to take would be for The Pokémon Company International to inform fans when the future print runs will hit shelves. Scalpers tend to know this information in advance, so it’s helpful to level the playing field for normal fans. Pokémon TCG fans should resist the urge to overpay for Prismatic Evolutions now, as The Pokémon Company International will be printing this set for a long time.
