Post Malone’s Nirvana Covers LP Coming On Record Store Day 2025

Back in the early weeks of the pandemic, Post Malone did a livestreamed Nirvana tribute where he covered over a dozen songs made famous by the recently-reunited band. A few years later, and Posty is now an ambassador for Record Store Day 2025, which falls on April 12. His tribute will be pressed to vinyl for the occasion, marking the music’s first formal release.

“Fortnight” — Post Malone’s Grammy-nominated collaboration with Taylor Swift — is also getting a 7″ RSD exclusive release, and proceeds from the Nirvana tribute LP will benefit MusiCares. Meanwhile, Sam Fender will serve as the UK RSD ambassador. Posty said in an official statement:

Record Store Day is so important, and I really hope to do my part to keep it alive. We love hitting local shops when we’re on the road, seeing all the crazy artwork… the whole energy in a record store is just super inspiring. I feel at home. It’s really an unexplainable feeling to hit up a shop and dig through crates, just see what grabs your eye. You can be looking for something super specific and end up finding something totally different. It’s the best. Keep supporting y’all and let’s keep records and these local shops going strong. Happy Record Store Day everybody!

Fun fact: The first RSD special release Post Malone did was in 2016, and it was a 12″ single featuring his official debut single “White Iverson.” Last Tuesday was the 10th anniversary of the day he put “White Iverson” on SoundCloud, and he celebrated with a limited edition anniversary white vinyl 7″, Reebok hoodie, and Wilson basketball (all were available for only 24 hours and sold out really fast).

Though Posty can thank the internet for his career start, vinyl continues to grow in popularity: Vinyl sales were up 6.2% last year according to Luminate’s 2024 mid-year report, the 17th year in a row that vinyl sales have increased.

And RSD is far from the only brand Posty is promoting as of late. He’s playing a Bud Light Super Bowl Concert tomorrow night, and he’s appeared in big campaigns for the company as well as spots for Oreos.
