SAD NEWS: 30 minutes ago, Mrs. Jacklyn “Jackie” Bezos – mother of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos – passed away at her home in Miami
Just half an hour ago, the Bezos family confirmed the heartbreaking news: Jacklyn “Jackie” Bezos, the devoted mother who stood by Jeff Bezos from his earliest days, passed away at her Miami home at the age of 78.

According to the family, she died peacefully, surrounded by her husband, Mike Bezos, and her children and grandchildren. She had been battling Lewy Body Dementia, a progressive neurodegenerative disease, since 2020.

In an emotional Instagram tribute, Jeff Bezos wrote:

“After a long battle, she passed away today, surrounded by everyone who loved her… I know she felt our love in her final moments. I will hold her safe in my heart forever.”
Jackie’s life story is one of resilience and devotion. She became a mother at 17, raising Jeff as a single mom while working and attending night school. Later, she married Mike Bezos, who raised Jeff as his own. In 1995, the couple placed a bold bet on Jeff’s vision for Amazon by investing $250,000 — a decision that helped shape the future of e-commerce.

Beyond being a mother and early investor, Jackie co-founded the Bezos Family Foundation, a nonprofit focused on education and child development. Programs such as Vroom and the Bezos Scholars initiative have impacted thousands of young people across the globe.
The Bezos family has expressed that, in lieu of flowers, people may honor Jackie’s memory by donating to charitable causes or performing acts of kindness — keeping alive the generosity and compassion she embodied.
Her legacy — of courage, kindness, and unwavering love for her family — will be remembered by all who knew her.
