Grammy Award-winning rapper Nelly is under fire for his decision to perform at Monday’s inaugural ball following President Trump’s swearing-in. In a live stream with rapper Willie D, Nelly makes it clear his decision to perform isn’t about politics, but for the love of his country.
Nelly also distinguished between endorsing a candidate and simply performing, saying he supports the office of the president no matter who holds it.
Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg headlined this weekend’s ‘Crypto Ball’ alongside rapper Rick Ross, an event that brought together prominent figures from the cryptocurrency industry.
While Trump wasn’t present at the Crypto Ball, the event was part of this weekend’s inauguration events. Despite the online backlash seen in comments on videos of his performance, Snoop Dogg seems unfazed.
Some users pointed out the contradiction, highlighting that Snoop previously criticized artists who performed at Trump’s first inauguration – calling them “Uncle Tom’s.”
Nelly will be joined at the inaugural ball by the disco group behind the hit song “YMCA” – the Village People – and country singer Jason Aldean
