Snow totals in DC, Maryland, Virginia

A fast-moving winter storm swept through the D.C. region Tuesday, dropping several inches of snow and causing hazardous travel conditions. 

Some areas saw more than 10 inches of snowfall, while the nation’s capital recorded 4 inches by early evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow began falling in the D.C. metro area around 2 p.m. Tuesday, starting as light, fine flakes before intensifying as heavier snow bands pushed northward.

DMV snow totals

Virginia:

The heaviest accumulation was reported in Augusta County, Virginia, where the town of Christian has received 10.8 inches so far. 

Other significant totals included 10.5 inches in Spottswood and 9.5 inches in both Stuarts Draft and Summerdean.

Northern Virginia was hit hard as well, with Fairfax Station recording 5.3 inches, while Prince William County saw 6.3 inches in Lake Ridge and 6 inches in Dale City.

Maryland:

In Maryland, Charles County saw some of the highest totals, with White Plains receiving 5.9 inches and Waldorf measuring 5.8 inches. 

St. Mary’s County also saw substantial snowfall, with Clements reporting 7.5 inches.

DC:

By 7 p.m., 4 inches of snow had fallen so far in the District, according to the National Weather Service. 

Airport snow totals

As of 7:00 p.m., officially 3 inches of snow had fallen near DCA, Dulles has reported 2.8 inches, Baltimore less than 2. FOX 5 meteorologist Mike Thomas says the measurements will likely bump up by a few inches by the morning. 

  • BWI: 1.8 inches
  • Dulles: 2.8 inches
  • DCA: 3 inches

Road conditions worsen

The storm brought widespread travel disruptions, with road crews working through the evening to clear major highways and secondary roads. Officials urged residents to stay off the roads if possible, warning of slick conditions and freezing temperatures overnight.
