Manchester United beat FCSB 2-0 on Thursday night, with Kobbie Mainoo the match-winner.
Ruben Amorim will have had a huge smile on his face when the final whistle was blown in Bucharest on Thursday.
Manchester United made it three wins on the bounce and five in seven – while also securing a third-place finish in the league phase of the Europa League.
United beat FCSB 2-0 in a game which was more comfortable than the scoreline suggested, with a handful of chances going amiss.
In the game, there were plenty of standouts including Lisandro Martinez. But it was Kobbie Mainoo who secured the points for United, all while playing in a new position.
Due to his brilliance, Mainoo has entered United’s history books.

Kobbie Mainoo joins Wayne Rooney after goal and assist vs FCSB
Mainoo was very impressive over in Romania on Thursday night as he was United’s man of the match.
Amorim played Mainoo as a No.10 in the game, and the return was immediate as the 19-year-old scored and assisted in the 2-0 win.
With his goal and assist, Mainoo entered the history books alongside Wayne Rooney.
Since 2004, only Rooney had scored and assisted on his first start in a European competition for United. Now Mainoo has joined this record.
Only two players since 2004 have both scored and assisted on their first major European start for Man United…

Rooney’s came when he scored three and assisted one back in September 2004 during a 6-2 win over Fenerbahce.
It is quite remarkable that this was Mainoo’s first European start for United. It was also his first as an attacking midfielder, a role which he now looks set to kick on in.
This was not the only record Mainoo broke.
Mainoo breaks another Manchester United record
To emphasise just how rare Mainoo’s achievement of scoring and assisting is for United, he made a second bit of history.
It was claimed on X by Statman Dave that Mainoo had become the youngster midfielder – at 19 and 286 days – in United’s club history to register a goal and an assist in a single game for the club.

Mainoo could have had an even better night, as he missed one big chance and could also have had another if not for good FCSB defending.
Playing as one of the two No.10s, Mainoo is a man re-born and put in his best performance this season. Hopefully, we get to see him in this role on Sunday against Palace as Amorim may have just cracked his best team.
