Toronto Raptors Make Decision After Jimmy Butler to Warriors Trade

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Wednesday evening that the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat had agreed to a blockbuster NBA trade that swaps Jimmy Butler and Andrew Wiggins, among other pieces.

“BREAKING: The Miami Heat are finalizing a deal to send Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors for Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson and a protected first-round pick, sources tell ESPN,” Charania wrote in his initial report on X.

Additional details have continued to emerge about this trade, including the news that Butler has declined his 2025-2026 player option and agreed to a two-year, $121 million contract extension with Golden State.

This trade has several moving parts, and initially included five teams (per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports). While it was reported by Charania that Warriors forward Kyle Anderson would be heading to the Toronto Raptors as part of this deal, it now appears that is not the case.

Charania provided an update shortly after, revealing Toronto decided not to receive Anderson in this multi-team trade.

“Miami is working through a resolution with Kyle Anderson — Toronto portion fell through, sources said,” Charania reported. “He could stay or be moved. A massive deal with many moving parts.”

Anderson is in his 11th NBA season, four of which came with the Memphis Grizzlies. On the 2022 Memphis team that lost to Golden State in the Western Conference Semifinals, Anderson averaged 6.0 points and 4.3 rebounds in 12 appearances that postseason.

Per StatMuse, the 248 games Anderson played for the Grizzlies ranks 24th in franchise history. After his stop in Memphis, Anderson spent two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves before joining Golden State this offseason.
