John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks put a downright spankin’ on Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats in what is probably the worst loss of the season for Mark Pope and his second straight loss at home.
For postseason purposes, this puts Kentucky at 4-4 in the SEC, and now the Cats have officially suffered a ‘bad’ loss according to the NCAA NET rankings. Kentucky was handed a Quad 3 loss at home by the Razorbacks, who ranked 60th in the NET.
In a normal setting, losing to a conference opponent such as Arkansas at home wouldn’t be such a bad thing, it’s happened plenty of times before Saturday night.
However, Kentucky and Mark Pope simply lost a game with extenuating circumstances and flopped for the second straight big game at Rupp Arena.
After this, Kentucky will almost certainly be fighting for a top-four seed in the NCAA tournament, and any hope of a top-four seed in the SEC tournament is most likely gone, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Don’t lose to Georgia, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas, and this conversation would not exist.
