Who is Kevin Porter Jr., the Milwaukee Bucks’ newest player acquired during NBA trade deadline? Stats, draft, contract, highlights

Kevin Porter Jr. once showed his immense potential against the Milwaukee Bucks when he set a career-high 50 points as a member of the Houston Rockets.

That was four years ago.

A lot has changed since then. Porter was a defendant in a domestic violence case in New York and avoided jail time after accepting a plea deal just over a year ago. As a result, he did not play in the NBA last season and went to Greece for a short stint.

And now as he’s having his worst season as a pro, he’s become a member of the Bucks. The Bucks acquired Porter in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, a team he joined this season, on Thursday in exchange for MarJon Beauchamp.

Why did Kevin Porter Jr. not play during the 2023-24 season?

Porter did not play during the 2023-24 season after being charged with assault and strangulation against his girlfriend inside a New York City hotel. Porter eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault with a harassment violation.

Part of that deal required Porter to “complete a 26-week Abusive Partner Intervention Program or an equivalent program with a private counselor” while abiding by a limited order of protection, according to the Associated Press.

Porter’s four-year contract extension that he signed in 2022 was worth $82.5 million but, according to ESPN, it was partially guaranteed due to his history of off-court issues.

He was inactive to begin the 2020-21 season while facing a weapons charge but a grand jury declined to indict Porter.

In college, Porter was suspended for personal conduct issues.
